A 17-year-old female was killed following a high-speed police chase in Yorkville's Heartland subdivision Thursday morning, following a report that she had been stealing packages off porches in the neighborhood.

At approximately 9:06 a.m., Yorkville police were dispatched to the 700 block of Arrowhead Drive in Yorkville for a report of the theft of a package from the front porch of a residence.

Police located the vehicle involved in the theft, a 2003 Toyota Avalon, which was reported stolen on Jan. 2, and stopped the vehicle at Omaha and Homestead Drive in Yorkville. The offender fled the traffic stop at a high rate of speed throughout the subdivision, police said.

The driver then lost control of the vehicle in the 600 block of Heartland Drive, struck a large tree in the parkway, and the offender was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The crash victim was identified as a 17-year-old female juvenile from Dolton, Ill., police said.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office assisted with the traffic crash report and the Illinois State Police assisted with the traffic crash reconstruction, according to Yorkville police.
