High school sports roundup: Lemont basketball player PJ Pipes adds two big accolades to resume

LEMONT – PJ Pipes joined elite company in the history of Lemont’s boys basketball team when he committed to play collegiately at Wisconsin-Green Bay next season, becoming just the third Division I commit in program history.

He added another huge honor Jan. 10 when he was one of 12 high school boys basketball players from Illinois to be named to the watch list for the McDonald’s All-American game. The final rosters of the two 24-player teams will be announced Jan. 15. The game is scheduled for March 29 at the United Center in Chicago.

Pipes added yet another accolade on Jan. 10 when he scored his 1,000th career point in the Indians’ 67-52 home win against Eisenhower. The Indians improved to 9-7 overall and 5-0 in South Suburban Conference play.

Pipes scored 25 points, Jerry Radomski had 15 points and eight rebounds, Paul O’Leary tallied 11 points and six boards, and Nate Podgorak had nine points and 10 rebounds in Lemont’s 62-44 win against Evergreen Park on Jan. 6.

Lemont girls basketball

Junior guard Claudia Sikora scored 11 points and went 3 of 5 from 3-point range, senior forward Paige Terrazas pulled down seven rebounds, and every player scored at least one point as Lemont topped Eisenhower 55-24 on Jan. 10.

Lemont improved to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the South Suburban Conference.

The Jan. 10 win came on the heels of a 51-46 win against Evergreen Park on Jan. 5 that saw junior guard Emma Bozue tally 15 points and four steals while senior guard Shannon O’Donnel had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Lemont boys bowling

Lemont and Lyons Township split the first two games of their nonconference dual Jan. 9, with the Indians winning the second game 1,037-943. The Lions captured the third game 980-966 to deal Lemont a 2,938-2,907 loss.

Senior Chris McAdam bowled a 646 series (165-247-234) and fellow senior Joe Margalus had a 634 series (227-209-198) for Lemont.

Junior Pat Kerrigan had a 204 game for Lemont, which suffered just its second dual meet loss as it slipped to 12-2 on the season.
