West Carroll takes first at section competition

HANOVER – The Section 1 FFA Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event competition was Jan. 9 at River Ridge High School.

West Carroll High School FFA members participated. Celia Hartman was the school’s creed speaker, taking fifth place.

Creed competition is for first-year ag student Greenhands.

Members were asked to recite the FFA creed by memory and answer six questions within 5 minutes in front of a panel of judges. They are judged on voice, poise, and stage presence.

The West Carroll Parliamentary Procedure teams placed first in their categories. Members are Luke Jones, Josi Anderson, Leland Houzenga, Emma Aljets, Daniel Hartman, and Shaelynn Williams.

Parliamentary Procedure is the ability to run a formal meeting. In the competition, teams are judged on their ability to run a meeting smoothly, discussing and debating motions, and the ability to bring motions to attention.

Discovery team members and placings are: Lakin Getz, first place, chairman; Olivia Charles, first, secretary; and first- through fifth-place floor members, Sophia Guenzler, Jacob McLuckie, Gabe Thema-Smit, Tommy Faulk, and Julian Ortiz.

The Novice Parliamentary Procedure team placed first over Scales Mound. Individually, Celia Hartman, first, secretary, and Riley Getz, second, chairman.

First- through fourth- place individual floor member results were Ty Aljets, Adam Rath, Abby Burns, and Bradley Tuftee.

Varsity Parliamentary Procedure results are:

First- through fifth-place teams, West Carroll, Stockton, Forreston, Galena, and River Ridge.

First- through fifth-place chairmen, Daniel Hartman, West Carroll; Jill Harmston, Stockton; Liz Scott, River Ridge; Aaron Wubbena, Forreston; and Jack Einsweillen, Galena.

First- through fifth place secretaries, Emma Aljets, West Carroll; Hannah Brudi, Sockton; Devin Koester, River Ridge; Bailey Brooks, Forreston; and Kenzie Casper, Galena.

First- through 10th-place floor members are Luke Jones, West Carroll; Olivia Kepner, Stockton; Emma Aljets, West Carroll; Josi Anderson, West Carroll; Brooklynn Hollis, Forreston; Leland Houzenga, West Carroll; Anna Snider, Forreston; Kendra Scace, Stockton; Jacob Green, Forreston; and Hannah Brudi, Stockton.
