CARPENTERSVILLE – The Carpentersville Police Department recently announced that Sgt. Jorge Gonzalez has graduated from Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command.
Gonzalez was one of 36 students to complete the 10-week program from September through this month.
The program provides officers with upper-level college instruction and covers topics such as human resources, leadership, employee relations, organizational behavior and budgeting.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity I was given to participate in this highly recognized and respected program,” Gonzalez said. “Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command has given me an advanced perspective on how to be an effective leader and civil servant.”
Each program participant was academically challenged through projects, presentations, quizzes and written exams. Upon completing the program, participants were awarded undergraduate credits from Northwestern University.
“My mission is to take the knowledge obtained and use it to give back to the community of Carpentersville,” Gonzalez said. “Thank you to police department command staff for allowing me to take time away from my post in order to complete this training.”
Established in 1983 by Northwestern University’s Center for Public Safety, the program has produced thousands of national and international graduates.
“Our police department sends each of its sergeants to this program,” Police Chief Michael Kilbourne said. “We have seen that this program helps develop a strong team of first-level supervisors to serve both our community and police department.”
