Why Langan was selected:

Langan drained six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Hilltoppers to a win against Hinsdale Central on Feb. 10.

Chris Langan’s primary role for Glenbard West’s boys basketball team isn’t to score a bunch of points, but he got hot in the Hilltoppers’ West Suburban Silver home game against Hinsdale Central. Langan started hot from long range and scored 24 points as West won 68-63, handing Central its first league loss of the season. Langan, the Suburban Life Athlete of the Week sponsored by Cindy Purdom, spoke with sports editor Jason Rossi about his game, the team’s win, and more. Here’s an edited transcript:

Rossi: Have you ever had a game like that before where everything seemed to fall for you?

Langan: I have in the past in different years, but nothing like that in the past two years. It wasn’t really my role to score, but now it seems it’s starting to come back.

Rossi: How did it feel to get hot like that?

Langan: The first shot I took went in, and from that point on I just kind of realized it was going to be one of those games and how basically anything I put up was going to go in. I think my teammates trusted me to put the ball up and score, and it felt great to see all the work I put in pay off like that.

Rossi: Was it a similar feeling for the team, that it was just your night to beat a team that was unbeaten in conference?

Langan: Yeah, and it helped that a majority of the shots were good, open shots coming off hard screens.

Rossi: Do you think that kind of win can build some momentum in the last couple of weeks of the season?

Langan: It definitely builds some momentum going into the postseason, knowing we’re capable of scoring and capable of playing with teams that people think are better than us. It shows we can play with anyone.
