RIVER GROVE – Feb. 15 was a night to remember for Joey Davidson.
The Timothy Christian senior entered the boys basketball game against host Guerin needing 17 points to reach 1,000 for his career. He scored 19 in the Trojans’ 73-47 Metro Suburban Red win.
Davidson, the 10th player in program history to score 1,000 points, will look to add to his total when Timothy hosts St. Edward in the regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17.
Timothy, a No. 3 seed in the subdivided Class 2A Guerin sectional, faces No. 5 Westmont in a regional game at IC Catholic at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21.
GIRLS BOWLING
Willowbrook
The Warriors were fifth as a team, 100 pins and one place back of a state tournament spot, at the Oak Lawn regional Feb. 11, but senior Jordan Tiberi advanced to the state with a 1,204 series that took the last individual spot at the sectional.
Willowbrook bowled a 5,307 at the sectional.
York
The Dukes had four bowlers with series of 1,000 or better at the Oak Lawn sectional Feb. 11 as they placed third to move on to the state tournament.
Junior Lauren Gould's 1,173 led the way for York, and senior Jessica Cwik (1,169) was right behid Gould.
Senior Jennifer Diamond bowled an 1,100, junior Lauren Steck a 1,038 and sophomore Krystyna Panek a 948 for York's 5,428 team score.
The Dukes will hit the lanes at the Cherry Bowl in Rockford at 9 a.m. Feb. 17 to begin the state tournament.
BOYS BASKETBALL
York
Jordan Gray scored 24 points for the Dukes in a 53-48 West Suburban Silver win against Lyons Township on Feb. 14. York (12-14, 4-7 WSS) trailed 38-33 entering the fourth quarter but rallied for the win. The Dukes host Proviso West at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
IC Catholic
After a forfeit win against Kelvyn Park on Feb. 13, the Knights topped Westinghouse 64-50 on Feb. 15 in a Class 3A regional semifinal at IC. The Knights were scheduled to face Glenbard South in the regional final Feb. 16.
Timothy Christian
The Trojans fell 46-43 in overtime in a Class 2A regional championship game against host Lisle on Feb. 10.
Timothy trailed 20-3 and 25-12 in the first half, but battled back for a 43-37 lead late in regulation. The Lions then knotted the score at 43-43 to force what turned out to be a low-scoring overtime.
Jordyn Strube scored 16 points and senior Ava Venema added eight points for Timothy.
York
Leading just 30-26 against Glenbard West, the Dukes stormed ahead for a 70-43 win in a Class 4A regional semifinal game at Hoffman Estates on Feb. 15.
Danielle Dennis scored 25 points, Jaclyn Saco added 11 and Caylin Rufus had 10 for the Dukes (15-12), who face Geneva for the regional title at 7 p.m. Feb 17.
WRESTLING
Glenbard East
Fourth-place finishes for Scott Szabo (138 pounds) and Brandon Raines (285) at the Class 3A Downers Grove North sectional Feb. 11 clinched state tournament berths.
IC Catholic
Joey Bianchini surrendered just one point in his final two matches at the Class 1A Coal City sectional Feb. 11 to win the 113-pound title and book a spot at the state tourney. Bianchini scored a 17-1 technical fall in the semifinals before winning 7-0 in the final.
Victor Vargas was second at 220 for a state berth for the Knights.
Montini
Dylan Ragusin (106 pounds), Real Woods (126), Fidel Mayora (132) and Will Lewan (145) won championship matches at the Class 3A Downers Grove North sectional Feb. 11 to move on to the state tournament. Peter Christensen was second at 182, and Joey Melendez (113) and Matt Ortiz (152) won third-place matches.

After a first-round loss at 145 pounds at the Class 3A Conant sectional, Austin Hoffman won four backdraw matches to place fourth and secure a spot at the state tourney.
