Betty M. Cushman

GALT – Betty M. Cushman, 84, of Galt, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Betty was born Sept. 18, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Bean) Ford. She married Rodney T. Cushman on June 6, 1951, in New Mexico. Betty was a secretary at Sterling High School for 6 years. She and Rodney enjoyed traveling, and took many trips to England, Canada, Texas, and California. She enjoyed tennis, bowling, and swimming. Betty loved to entertain family and friends with many gatherings at her home. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and her greatest passion was her love for her children and grandchildren.

Those who survive include her husband, Rodney of Galt; her daughters, Ruth (David) Hand of Rock Falls and Robbin Clifton of Sterling; her sons, Bill (Elaine) Cushman of Sterling and Bob (Mary House) Cushman of Galt; her grandchildren, Shelley (Johnnie) Smith, Brad (Melissa) Cushman, Derrick Hand, Lynnsey (Payton) Leigh, Anna Cushman, Trevor Cushman-Clifton, and Jade Clifton; and her great-grandchildren, Katie (Connor Leach) Smith, Alyssa Zabala, Ellie Leigh, Cale Cushman, Carson Leigh, Carli Cushman, and Cherish Richardson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, William Weinberg, by whom she was raised.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Per her wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of McDonald Funeral Home and Crematory in Rock Falls.
