Why have you decided to run for this office?
I have a strong passion for public education and want to make a positive contribution to our district’s schools. I believe that the student-teacher relationship is paramount to the learning success of a child. The school board can play an instrumental role in protecting and advancing that relationship.
What experience and strengths would you bring to this office if elected?
I have been an educator for a quarter century and intimately understand the classroom experience. I have also served as an administrator of an educational program, which has provided me with a unique and diverse perspective on providing educational services.
Where do you stand on the $24.2 million facilities referendum measure?
I strongly support it. Good working conditions are good learning conditions.
What types of new technologies or styles of learning should the district explore or implement in the coming years?
The district should continue to implement pedagogies that are supported by educational research. Students learn in many different ways and good educators are prepared to meet the learning needs of the students with the appropriate techniques and technology.
The current political climate across the United States seems more divided than ever. What will you do to foster cooperation and compromise on the board?
I will be guided by the commitment that we should be tough on the issues and but kind to one another. Civil discourse is not only required for productive communication but it is necessary for good decision making.
