CHADWICK – Lyle Cartwright, 80, of Chadwick, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at his home.
Lyle was born Feb. 28, 1937, at home, the son of James Clifton “Cliff” and Barbara Howe (Heide) Cartwright. He grew up on the family farm and attended country schools. Lyle married the love of his life, Carol Beyer, on Feb. 24, 1962, at Mount Carroll United Methodist Church. He received his GED later, when he was a young married man and already had children. His children remember giving him congratulations cards on his accomplishment. Lyle was a farmer, plain and simple. He liked the outdoors and loved managing farm life with Carol. Lyle and Carol recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. One of the highlights of Lyle’s life included him holding and playing with his newborn great-grandson just a week ago. Lyle farmed all of his life. He also operated Cartwright’s Custom Stacking and Bailing for many years. He enjoyed driving trucks and serving Carroll County as a deputy for the mounted patrol and sheriff’s patrol. He served as a Fairhaven Township trustee, and attended Fair Haven United Methodist Church. He enjoyed horses, boating, fishing, hunting, vacationing, riding his Harley-Davidson, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.
Lyle will be dearly missed by his wife, Carol of Chadwick; a son, Joseph “Joe” (Peggy) Cartwright of LaSalle; a daughter, Angeline “Angie” Marie (Kevin) Krol of East Moline; three grandchildren, Brandon (Amelia) Cartwright, Chase (Sarah) Cartwright, and Haley Marie Krol; a great-grandson, Axel Dean Cartwright; a sister, Marian VanKampen of Sterling; and a sister-in-law, Carrie Cartwright of Dixon.
Lyle was preceded in death by both parents; two children in infancy, Cathy and Clifton; two brothers, Robert at 6 months, and James Leonard Cartwright; and two brothers-in-law, Harold “Bud” VanKampen and Richard Beyer.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mount Carroll. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chadwick Cemetery.
