BROOKFIELD – There was plenty of offense, but the end result wasn’t what Riverside Brookfield’s baseball team had in mind – a 12-11 loss against Illiana Christian on April 8.
Howard Hatton and Kyle Fitzgerald both hit home runs. Hatton drove in three runs and Fitzgerald scored three times.
The Bulldogs were hot early against Elmwood Park the day before facing Illiana and rode the momentum to an 11-4 win.
Fitzgerald doubled and tripled against Elmwood, scoring three times and knocking in two runs. Kohn Kosner went 3 for 5 with two RBIs, and Asher Runyan-Randruut went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Jay Heer pitched five innings and earned the win.
RB sat at 5-1-1 before April 10 and 11 games against Aurora Central Catholic.
BASEBALL
Fenwick
Casey O’Laughlin and Jack Grace each hit solo home runs, while Casey Pup and Michael Fiorito each went 2 for 3 in the Friars’ 9-3 loss against Mount Carmel on April 8.
Fenwick overcame 3-1 and 4-3 deficits in a 5-4 win against Maine South on April 7. O’Laughlin drove in two runs and Anthony Cavalieri scored twice.
Morton
Ruben Torres and Fernando Adame each doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs, while Luis Lopez doubled and scored three times, but the Mustangs fell 12-11 against Glenbard West in a West Suburban Conference crossover game April 8.
Nazareth
A day after a 6-5 win against Glenbard South, the Roadrunners posted a 13-3, five-inning win against Brooks on April 8.
Thomas Sandt worked four innings on the mound for the win, and Bobby Grimes (2 for 3, two runs, three RBIs), Dominic Milano (1 for 2, two RBIs) and Andrew Rouse (two walks, two runs) powered the offense.
Ryan Turgeon earned the pitching win against the Raiders and helped his own cause with two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Fenwick
The Friars lost both ends of a doubleheader against Mother McAuley on April 8, falling 3-2 and 7-1.
Alyssa Stramaglia and Rachel Martinez each had an RBI in the 3-2 loss. Tess LoGuidice had the RBI in the 7-1 loss.
Lyons Township
Teagan Bozzi and Sarah Pavlik each drove in a run, while Gabby Allen, Dana Reynolds and Morgan Petrosius scored one run apiece in a 5-3 loss against Richards on April 7.
Nazareth
Devyn Zuro yielded only a walk in pitching a no-hitter in the Roadrunners’ 2-0 victory against Stagg on April 4. Zuro and Taylor Gipson each had an RBI, and Gloria Corona scored both runs.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lyons Township
The Lions notched a 3-0 win against Hinsdale South in the first round of the PepsiCo Showdown tournament April 8 and will play against host St. Charles North at 6:30 p.m. April 13.
Nazareth
A win against Deerfield on April 8 in the PepsiCo Showdown opener set up a home game against Lane Tech in a tournament quarterfinal April 13.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Lyons Township
The Lions went 2-1-1 at the Fenwick tournament April 7 and 8. They topped Loyola (9-6) and Naperville North (11-3), tied Fenwick 9-9 and lost 12-7 against Stevenson.
Hannah Good scored four goals and Kaysie Stuba had three goals against Loyola. Stuba and Good each scored three goals against Naperville North, while Annika Moore and Victoria Guevara had two apiece.
Grace Wantuck made 37 saves in the tourney as LT improved to 13-5-1 on the season.
