Frank 'Bud' Dexter

DIXON – Frank “Bud” Dexter, 89, a resident of Dixon, formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Friday, April 21, 2017, at KSB Hospital in Dixon.

Born June 14, 1927, in Taylor Ridge, Bud was the son of Andrew and Rose (Wessel) Dexter. On Nov. 7, 1953, in Atkinson, he married Marion J. Sleigh. She preceded him in death on March 6, 2000.

Bud served his country in the Navy during World War II, serving in the south Pacific. He retired as a retort operator in 1989 from Ralston Purina Co. in Davenport after 40 years of service. Bud was a member of VFW Post 9128 in Bettendorf, and served on its firing squad. He enjoyed making birdhouses and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Sharon Dexter of Dixon and Danny (Kim) Dexter of West Plains, Missouri; granddaughters, Alyssa and Allison; and a brother, Harry Dexter of Gardner, Kansas.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred, Bob and Harold; stepsister, Dorothy Robbins; and a stepbrother, Kenny Swails.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Burial will be at Liberty Cemetery in rural Atkinson. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf and Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon are assisting the family with arrangements.
