DIXON – Ruth May Baker, 89, of Dixon, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. She worked for Robert Warner Law Offices as a legal stenographer for more than 30 years, before her retirement.
Ruth was born Feb. 19, 1928, in Freeport, the daughter of Elmer and Belinda (Dammon) Nesemeyer. She married Reynolds Baker on Nov. 14, 1948, in Freeport. He preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2001. Ruth was a 50-year member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon, and was active in Womens Circle. Ruth volunteered as a Pink Lady at KSB Hospital, and volunteered at Dixon Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. She loved mowing her yard, working in her flower beds, playing cards with her friends and family, and excursions to the casinos.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Cathy (Richard) Allers of Bourbonnais and Carol (John) Red of Dixon; one sister, Mary Jane Theviot of Ocala, Florida; two brothers, Floyd Nesemeyer of Freeport and Paul Nesemeyer of Baileyville; one sister-in-law, Helen Griffith; four grandchildren, Amy O’Rorke, Kristopher J. (Lauren Olszewski) O’Rorke, Joshua (Nicole) Allers, and Abigail (John) Hornbogen; one stepgranddaughter, Amanda (Rick) Ambrogio; six great-grandchildren, Haiden Allers, Eagen Allers, Maya Hornbogen, Ethan Hornbogen, Allie Rose O’Rorke, and Kristopher Ryan O’Rorke; six step-great-grandchildren, Hannah Akers, Destinee Daniels, Madison, Trever, and Elainah Squellati, and Braydon Ambrogio; and special friends and neighbors, Don and Rita Riva.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Anna Bonebright.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, 921 E. Chamberlin St., Dixon, with the Rev. Marilyn Nolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, following the luncheon at church. Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Grace United Methodist Church, Buddy Bags, and Operation Christmas Child.
