Walnut Trails Elementary announced the winners of 2017 Ag Jeopardy

MAZON - The 27th Annual Ag Jeopardy Tournament was held last Friday in Mazon. The competition serves as the grand finally for the Ag in the Classroom fourth-grade program offered by the Grundy County Farm Bureau. In total, 12 schools participated in the competition, each bringing a team of 6, for a total of 72 students.

Each team competed in a series of challenges that tested the agriculture knowledge they gained throughout the school year as part of Ag in the Classroom. Topics covered this year included corn, soybeans, animal agriculture, nutrition, dairy, and careers in agriculture.

Ag in the Classroom Coordinator Yvonne Foss announced Walnut Trails Elementary as the victor. Members of the team included Noah Allen, Samantha Hulick, Elliot Kimbarovsky, Aubrey Laken, Jade Neill, and Caleigh Weve. Each member of the winning team was awarded a medal and each team went home with a trophy. Trophies for the event were generously provided by CF Industries who has supported the event for many years.

The classes also took part in a poster contest of which the winner was announce on Friday as well. The theme of this year’s posters was “Planting for Tomorrow”. Mekenna Delanery of Aux Sable School was the announced as the winner and her poster will be reproduced as place mats that can be found in area restaurants beginning on Ag Day in 2018.
