ELMHURST – On the heels of a big win in its own Class 1A regional championship game, IC Catholic’s girls soccer team kept it going in the sectional.
The Knights led 6-1 and topped Francis Parker 6-3 on May 16 in a sectional semifinal at Plunkett Athletic Complex.
IC (19-6) faces DePaul Prep in the sectional final at 6 p.m. May 19.
Tessa Langan opened the scoring for the Knights against Francis Parker midway through the first half, and when the Colonels tied it 1-1, Langan scored twice more before the half was over. She scored again less than 10 minutes into the second half for a 4-1 IC lead.
Abi Wagner scored on a penalty kick and Olivia Hurt converted Bella Leslie’s feed for a goal and a 6-1 lead with 21 minutes to play.
The Knights scored the first seven goals of the game, including five in the first 11 minutes, for an 8-3 win against Noble Street Charter in the regional final May 13. Grace Fuller notched IC’s first goal against Noble Street, Hurt scored the next two and Langan tallied two goals after Hurt’s scores. Demitra DelFiacco, Jalene Pina and Caitlin Curtin added goals in the regional win.
BADMINTON

Irin Abraham and Grace Mazzocco advanced to the consolation semifinals in doubles action at the state meet. They finished with a 4-2 record and were top eight in doubles for the Dukes.
Abraham and Mazzocco excelled in tight matches, winning in three sets for their victories.
Jenna Gallichio and Samantha Reed were 2-2 in doubles play at state, while Laura Hyink and Linnea Dierksheide went 1-2 in singles play for York, which finished ninth as a team.
BASEBALL
Montini
The Broncos made quick work of DePaul Prep on May 15, winning 11-1 on the road.
Nick Malik went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored, and Alex Luka, Ryan Nelson and Mike Koszewski each drove in two runs. Jake Karczewski, Matt Pestel and Trevor Young scored twice, and Luke pitched five no-hit innings to earn the win.

Hosting Hinsdale South on May 17, the Dukes won the West Suburban Conference crossover game 10-5 to improve to 20-10 on the season.
Mike Bernal was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Joey Chiappetta went 1 for 2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored. Mike Pastuovic doubled and drove in two runs, and Andrew Deardurff (RBI, two runs) and Ian Steinroth (RBI, run) made key contributions. Burke Corcoran pitched four innings for the win, allowing five runs but just one earned.
SOFTBALL
IC Catholic
With Josie Lytton going 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored, the Knights cruised to a 10-0 win against Willows Academy on May 16.
Hannah Wagner and Kayla Cervantes each scored twice. Cervantes, Kaitlyn Falduto, Natalie Murillo and Tea Carpanzano each had an RBI.
Falduto gave up just one hit and struck out six to earn the pitching win.
York
Lauren Wojcik and Sydney Fuglsang each drove in two RBIs and Katherine Karnatz hit a solo home run in a 9-5 win against Glenbard West on May 12.
Mia Tran scored twice and Wojcik pitched all seven innings for the win.
The Dukes split a doubleheader against Maine South on May 13, winning 18-7 in the second game. The Dukes fell 15-3 against Oak Park-River Forest on May 17 to slip to 15-11.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
York
Johnathan Tanner in the 200-meter dash (22.37 seconds) and Charlie Kern in the 1,600 run (4:16.22) were champions for the Dukes at the West Suburban Silver meet May 12 at Lyons Township.
Cal Widener in discus (145 feet, 2.5 inches) and shot put (54-4) and Obi Nnam in high jump (6-1) had runner-up showings for the Dukes.
