WALNUT – Marie Schulte, 94, of Walnut, died Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at Heritage Manor in Walnut.
Marie was born April 22, 1923, in Tampico, the daughter of Otto and Margaret (Whyte) Von Holten. She was united in marriage to Albert J. Schulte on April 28, 1940, in Rock Falls. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2000. Marie was a member of First Lutheran Church in Ohio. She had taught Sunday school and was a member of the church circle. Marie was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother, who loved to witness her faith for the Lord.
She is survived by three daughters, Carolyn (Don) Wallace of Tampico, Joyce (Dean) Geldean of Harmon, and Carla (Tim) Gonigam of Walnut; three sons, Virgil (Judy) Schulte and Marc (Carol) Schulte, both of Walnut, and James (Cindy) Schulte of Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Schulte of Peoria; 32 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Maynard) Parker and Euryth (Louis) Vickrey, both of Walnut; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Jerry Schulte; one daughter, Judy Sidebottom; son-in-law, Steve Sidebottom; two sisters, Betty Ann Oberleand and Ellen “Boots” Spencer; and seven brothers, Leo, James, John, Richard, Gene, Bob, and Don Von Holten.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Garland Funeral Home in Walnut. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Ohio, with the Rev. Gene Vincent officiating. Burial will be at Van Orin Repose Cemetery in Van Orin.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Ohio, Hospice of the Rock River Valley, or the Heritage Health Activities Fund in Walnut.
