BRADFORD — The Bradford chapter of Beta Sigma Phi closed out its 2016-17 year with the Ritual of Jewels for three new members and the installation of officers for the 2017-18 year at their meeting May 18.
New members Betty Hoy, Jessica Gilges and Betsy-Jean Dunehew received the Ritual of Jewels status, officially inducting them into the sorority. The new officers were also installed as follows: Angela Stange and Debra Ryan, co-presidents; Jessica Gilges, vice president; and Debra Ryan, treasurer. The recording secretary is Jeanette Scott and the corresponding secretary is Alayna Blake. New member Betty Hoy received the Pledge of the Year Award.
The organization is already busy organizing events for the coming year. In addition to their usual commitments to the Bradford community, Betas will be willing to help with funeral dinners for bereaved families of the Bradford community in need of assistance. After extensive discussion, the Bradford Betas has decided to discontinue its annual fall bazaar. The bazaar has been a big part of Betas for more than 40 years and a tradition in the community.
Starting this fall, instead of the bazaar, Betas will host a Family Feud Fun Nite in November to help raise money for their various community charities. In addition to a chance to participate as a contestant, the public can take part in a silent auction, 50/50 drawing, raffles and more. In addition, Betas has an account at the Bradford Bank and would accept any donations from anyone who would like to help the organization continue to serve members of the community who are in need. Donations may be sent to Bradford Beta Sigma Phi at the Bradford Banking Center, 179 W. Main St., Bradford, IL 61421.
