Dixon man charged in second sex assault case

DIXON – A 25-year-old Dixon man accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl was in Lee County Jail on Tuesday on $50,000 bond.

David J. Gossage, 25, was arrested Saturday and charged with three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, which carries 3 to 7 years in prison.

According to police, Gossage had sexual relations with the girl on March 26, and April 1 and 16.

He has a hearing June 7.

In July 2013, Gossage, then of Amboy, was accused of assaulting a girl younger than 17, and bruising her breasts. He was charged in Lee County Court with aggravated criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual assault, but pleaded guilty to battery and was sentenced in January to 2 years’ probation.

In 2011, he was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault for threatening a Sauk Valley Community College student with a knife during an argument; that case was dismissed in 2012 after he successfully completed the Second Chance program, which gave first-time offenders the opportunity to keep felony convictions off their records.
