SAVANNA – West Carroll FFA Junior High and Varsity Parliamentary Procedure teams each placed first in their respective division at the High School District I FFA Parliamentary Procedure Career Development Event April 12 at Black Hawk East College near Kewanee.
They will advance to the State Parliamentary Procedure CDE in June
Discovery Parliamentary Pro Team members Lakin Getz, president; Olivia Charles, secretary; and Sophia Guenzler, Gabe Themas-Smith, Julian Ortiz, Jacob McLuckie, and Tom Falk, floor members, were unopposed at the contest and will participate in the “Code of Conduct” CDE at the state convention.
Varsity team members Daniel Hartman, president; Emma Aljets, secretary; and Shae Williams, Jacob Casey, Josi Anderson, and Luke Jones, floor members, scored 834.5 Individually Jones, Aljets, and Williams placed first, second, and seventh, repectively. Daniel Hartman placed third as chairman and Aljets fourth as secretary.
The Novice Parliamentary Procedure Team placed sixth at the event. Members are Ty Aljets, chairman; Celia Hartman, secretary; and Bradley Tuftee, Abbi Burns, Adam Rath, and Riley Getz, floor members. Individually, Celia Hartman placed fourth as secretary and Aljets placed fourth as chairman.
Parliamentary Procedure contests consist of members completing a 25-question, multiple choice test, a 10-minute demonstration using parliamentary motions, and questions on the motions used in the demonstration.
Other teams in attendance were Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico novice team score, 604, Olivia Burgeson-Miniel, secretary, Cameron Abell, chairman. Varsity team score, 338.5, Rose Cady, secretary; Rochelle varsity team score, 774, Lance Hufalin, secretary, Eliza Petry and Donnie Harmon, floor members, Andrew Myers, chairman.
In other news, West Carroll FFA officers, Emma Aljets, president; Leland Houzenga, vice president; Shane Houzenga sentinel; and Shaelynn Williams, treasurer, recently attended a leadership skill workshop at the Carroll County Farm Bureau office in Mount Carroll.
They competed in multiple games on the importance of communication and teamwork. The games included the great wind blows, ships and sailors, trollies, walk the dog, and puzzles. The class was led by Deb Endress.
