Crystal Lake man arrested for possessing marijuana wax, gummies infused with THC

WOODSTOCK – A Crystal Lake man faces felony drug charges after being accused of having more than 3 pounds of marijuana and marijuana products, including a highly concentrated form of marijuana called wax and gummies infused with THC – the primary psychoactive found in cannabis.

Jeffrey S. Rothermel, 35, of the 1500 block of Crabtree Lane, was charged Saturday with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting a peace officer. If convicted of a Class 2 felony, he could face three to seven years in prison.

Rothermel also was cited for improper traffic lane use and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office seized two individually packed bags with about a half pound of marijuana, two individually wrapped bags containing several sealed plastic bags with about 2 pounds of gummies infused with THC, and two individually packed bags containing several small, sealed round containers of more than a half pound of a brown, waxlike substance containing THC, according to court documents.

Marijuana wax tends to have a higher THC concentration than most marijuana products.

The street value of the drugs is estimated at $30,600, deputies said.

Rothermel remained in McHenry County Jail as of Monday afternoon in lieu of posting 10 percent of his $40,000 bond.

He will appear in court Thursday before Judge Sharon Prather.
