ROCK FALLS – Fred Howe Jr, 94, of Rock Falls, died peacefully Monday, June 12, 2017.
He was born April 29, 1923, in Xenia, the son of Fred and Nancy (Brown) Howe. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. He married Patsy Lou Burkett on Jan. 10, 1949, in St. Louis. Pat passed away on July 14, 2004. Fred had worked for 30 years at the former Northwestern Steel & Wire Co. in Sterling as a welder, before retiring. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. Earlier in life, he coached Little League Baseball in Rock Falls, and was a member of Rock Falls VFW.
Survivors include his daughter, Connie Sue Howe of Golden Valley, Minnesota; his sons, Michael Joseph Howe and Bruce Patrick Howe, both of Bloomington; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Doug and Jeff; two brothers, Clint and Carl; and his sister, Mabel Jane.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Ave., Rock Falls, with the Rev. Michael Dunham officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
