Helen E. Manning

THOMSON – Helen E. Manning, 92, of Thomson, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna.

Helen was born April 8, 1925 in Ideal, rural Carroll County, the daughter of William J. and Neva B. (Atherton) Hans. She attended York Community High School, and graduated with the class of 1943. On Aug. 31, 1946, Helen married the love of her life, Frank Felix Manning, in Ideal. They celebrated 59 years of marriage, before Frank’s passing in 2006. Helen was a homemaker, and she took pride in raising her sons.

Helen was a past member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. She was also a member of the Grange. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, embroidering, reading, and square dancing. Most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Helen is survived by a son, Bill (Lola) Manning of Thomson; four grandchildren, Christa (Dave) Curley of Fulton, Bryce (Jessica) Manning of Marion, Iowa, Dustin Manning of Thomson, and Alan (Wendy Benson) Manning of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and nine great-grandchildren.

Helen also was preceded in death by her son, Kenny, and brother, Elmer Hans.

The funeral was Monday at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Burial was at Upper York Cemetery in Argo Fay.
