Barbara B. Hartman

SAVANNA – Barbara Bess Hartman, 82, of Savanna, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, Iowa.

Barbara was born Jan. 19, 1935, at home in Savanna, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Krafft) Taylor. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the class of 1952. On Feb. 23, 1958, Barbara married Lyle Hartman at Savanna Community Church.

Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at many places in the Savanna area for 40 years, retiring from Savanna City Hospital. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll, the Red Hat Society, and NARFE. She was an election judge for many years; and in her spare time enjoyed knitting, crafts, needle point, playing cribbage, and in her younger years, bowling. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her family.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her husband of 59 years, Lyle; three children, Susan (Mike) Herman of Pflugerville, Texas, William Hartman of Waterloo, Iowa, and Sharon (John) Hartmann of Lusaka, Zambia, Africa; and three grandchildren, Caitlin (Joshua) Voigt of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Reese Hartmann of Rockford, and Aaron Hartmann of Enid, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll. Burial of her cremated remains will be at Spring Lake Cemetery in Savanna.

A memorial fund has been established in Barbara’s memory.
