On the day the cross-town series started up in Chicago, a showdown between the White Sox and Cubs was brewing locally at the Little League level.
The Princeton White Sox and the Princeton Cubs met for the WBVL championship at Walnut Monday where the top-seeded White Sox prevailed 5-1.
Kylan Smith was the winning pitcher. D.J. Sousa had a single and triple with two RBIs. Brady Piacenti and Smith had a single with a run scored.
The White Sox beat BVN 8-2 Sunday to get to advance to the finals.
Along the way, the Cubs beat Wyanet 15-5 and Annawan 13-5.
BVN beat Annawan 12-9 in extra innings for third place.
Wyanet claimed the consolation title by defeating the Yankees, who forfeited.
Farm League
BVS defeated top-seed Kewanee All State 21-10 in Sunday’s Farm League title game at Wyanet.
Winning pitcher Matt Philhower went four innings with seven strikeouts. Carter Salisbury was 3-4 with two doubles, Max Wollerman was 4-4 with a double, triple, and two RBIs, Dalton Dean was 3-4 with three doubles and 3 RBIs and Philhower was 3-3 with two doubles and a homer and three RBIs.
BVS beat LaMoille 18-9 Saturday. Philhower went 3-3 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIs.
BVS finished with a 12-1 overall record.
In other Sunday’s finals, BVN beat LaMoille for third place and the Princeton Cubs beat Annawan for the consolation championship.
