DeKALB – Donna Larson, former DeKalb High School dean of students, was appointed one of the school’s new assistant principals Tuesday during the DeKalb School District 428 board meeting.
Larson takes the position vacated by Amonaquenette Parker, who became principal of Huntley Middle School in July. Earlier this year, Parker and former Dean of Students Sean Potts had taken assistant principal positions vacated by new Principal James Horne and Albert Biancalana, who took a job as a physical education teacher at the high school.
“I’m very excited to step into this role, and I feel like we have such a strong team, and we all bring significant backgrounds into our team,” Larson said. “We are going to be a great, inspiring team to the staff, community and students.”
Horne said Larson is involved with special education and will work with student services and outplacement facilities, while Potts will focus on scheduling, academic programs and working with state assessments.
Although Potts and Parker received $96,000 salaries when hired, Larson’s contract will be $88,000 her first year. Horne said the contract had been prorated to an 11-month contract, since she’s starting in August, while Potts’ contract started July 1.
