Kane County 4-H Foundation names 2017 scholarship recipients

ST. CHARLES – The Kane County 4-H Foundation provided $4,000 total in scholarship funds to five Kane County youths. The scholarship recipients were acknowledged at the Blue Ribbon Sale on July 22, a news release stated.

The recipients were selected based on their involvement with the 4-H Youth Development program, 4-H achievements, community service, school involvement and future plans, the release stated.

Erica Johnson was awarded the $500 Bob Konen Memorial Scholarship. Johnson has been in 4-H for five years and is a member of the Kaneville Classics 4-H Club. She plans on attending Waubonsee Community College, where she will study graphic arts and design; Johnson wants to pursue a career in animation. Her parents are Eric and Brenda Johnson of Maple Park.

Madde Klinkey earned a $1,000 scholarship from the 4-H Foundation. Klinkey has been in 4-H for nine years; she is a member of A Bit More 4-H Club. This fall, Klinkey will attend William Woods University to pursue a degree in equine administration. Her parents are Rob and Sandy Klinkey of St. Charles.

Elena Halverson earned a $500 scholarship. Halverson has been in 4-H for 10 years and is a member of the Lincoln Highway 4-H Club. She graduated from Hinckley-Big Rock High School and will attend Kishwaukee College. Halverson plans to study diesel technology and hopes to pursue a career in mechanics. Her parents are Don and Kim Halverson of DeKalb.

Emily Studt was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the 4-H Foundation. Studt is an 11-year member of 4-H and a part of the UnFOURgettables 4-H Club. Studt attends St. Ambrose University and is working toward a doctorate degree in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Christine Studt of Elgin.

Rebecca Dunteman earned a $1,000 scholarship from the 4-H Foundation. Dunteman is a 10-year member of 4-H and a part of the Big Rock Cowhands 4-H Club. Dunteman will attend Western Illinois University and plans to study education. Dunteman’s parents are Bill and Kari Dunteman of Big Rock.

The scholarships are supported through fundraising efforts and private donations made to the Kane County 4-H Foundation, according to the release.

The Bob Konen Memorial Scholarship, first available in 2010, was made possible through memorial donations from family and friends of Bob Konen, according to the release. He was a 50-year supported of 4-H, serving as a member, club leader and a volunteer.
