Pumas win two, lose four games

The Putnam County Pumas junior high softball team won two and lost four games this past week.

Shepherd 12, PC 0

Putnam County lost to Ottawa Shepherd on Aug. 19 by a 12-0 score. Kara Staley was the losing pitcher, walking four and striking out two in three innings. Brianna Henry and Tori Balma had hits.

Kewanee 15, PC 2

Staley was the losing pitcher for the Pumas on Aug. 19 against Kewanee.

Eureka 13, PC 6

Down 5-0 in the fourth inning, PC came back to tie the score in the bottom of the inning on Aug. 18 against Eureka. PC’s defense struggled in the fifth, giving up six runs. Madelyn Torrance had three hits. Staley took the loss, striking out six and walking four.

PC 17, Midland 2

Staley was the winning pitcher in PC’s win over Midland on Aug. 17, striking out four and walking one. Jaidin Trone and Zofia Uzella had two hits each. Torrance was on base four times with three walks and a hit by pitch.

Metamora 15, PC 6

The Lady Pumas were up by one going into the seventh inning on Aug. 15, but Metamora had six hits and PC made five errors for the loss. Staley was the losing pitcher, striking out seven and walking three. Torrance went 4-4 while Trone, Grace Ebel and Linzee Fay had two hits each.

PC 8, Marquette 7

Staley had 12 strikeouts, walked three and allowed six earned runs in the 8-7 win on Aug. 14. Zellmer, Ebel and Trone had two hits each during the 10-inning game.
