JOLIET — U.S. News and World Reports announced that Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) has been named one of Illinois' "Best" 20 Hospitals for 2017.
Widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions a hospital can receive in the U.S., this recognition spotlights PSJMC's commitment achieving the highest rating possible in 5 procedures or conditions. Illinois has more than 200 hospitals and only 30 meet high U.S. News standards and are ranked in the state. U.S. News also ranked hospitals in the Chicago metro area. PSJMC ranked #13 in 2017.
To help patients decide where to receive care, U.S. News evaluates data on nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult specialties, 9 adult procedures and conditions and 10 pediatric specialties. To be nationally ranked in a specialty, a hospital must excel in caring for the sickest, most medically complex patients. The ratings in procedures and conditions, by contrast, focus on typical Medicare patients. Hospitals that do well in multiple areas of adult care may be ranked in their state and metropolitan area.
