D'Arcy Motors Athlete of the Week: Mason Dooley, Seneca football

Seneca running back Mason Dooley had the game of his life Saturday afternoon in a 54-33 win over Dupo.

Dooley, a senior who also plays linebacker, carried the ball 24 times for 253 yards and scored three touchdowns – covering 1 45, and 9 yards – as the Fighting Irish improved to 2-0.

MHN: Have you ever run for that many yards in a game?

Dooley: No. Not even close. I think the most I ever had before was around 170. This was the most I have had by far.

MHN: Your offense usually spreads the carries out among the running backs. Were you surprised that your number kept getting called?

Dooley: Yeah, I was a little surprised. But toss right and toss left kept working, so I kept getting the ball.

MHN: You are 2-0 right now. How does that feel?

Dooley: It feels good. We carried over the energy from the first week [a 14-6 win over Dwight] into this last game. Now we have to do it again this week. I think we we will be able to, especially playing on our own field and having a good home crowd.

MHN: Plus, you owe Lisle one, don’t you?

Dooley: Yeah, they put it to us pretty good last year [Lisle beat Seneca, 47-6, last season]. We feel like we are a better team this year.

MHN: It seems like your team is pretty confident after two wins. Do you feel that way?

Dooley: Yeah, we are pretty confident, but we know we stil have a lot of season left The hardest part of our schedule is coming up, so we have to keep getting better. We really want to get into the playoffs this year.
