Lanark High School Class of 1957 reunites

The Lanark High School Class of 1957 recently celebrated its 60th class reunion.

Members and guests gathering on Friday, July 14, at Sharon Warneke Kurth’s home in Pearl City were Jane Bowers, of Rockford; Dave Bowman and Betty, of Weyerhauser, Wisconsin, and Gardner, Kansas; Roger Bremmer and Karen, of Shannon; Kenny Carbaugh and Linda, of Pearl City; Duane Kruse and Doris, of Lanark; Ralfe Lichty and Lucy, of New Bern, North Carolina; Betty Rademaker Roberts and Denny, of Chadwick; Denny Rippy and Alnona, of Leola, Pennsylvania; Janet Traum Hoover, of Sterling; Sharon Warneke Kurth, of Pearl City; and Sharon Folk Yoeckel, of Lanark. A catered dinner, fellowship, pictures and memorabilia, were shared.

“One-Liners”from the “Fifties” were read; and short unsigned high school memories, filled out by each classmate, were passed out and read by each other, while trying to figure out who wrote them!

The Friday evening group, joined by Leatrice Lynch Bicksler, of Leaf River, and her guest, Ron Kuntzelman; and Ron Helms and wife, Patty, of Urbandale, Iowa; attended the Lanark, Shannon, Eastland Alumni Banquet at the Masonic Temple in Freeport on Saturday evening, July 15, where they were introduced as one of the honored classes. The following Sunday morning, some of the group shared a breakfast brunch at The Rafters near Lena.

During the weekend, memories were shared of class members who have passed away: James Fulrath, Dennis Lamoreux, Russell Zier, Jr., Mary Ann Morris, Gary Smith, Larry Grove, Allan Zink; John Birchen, Jr., and most recently, Mary Poffenberger Rogers. Mary’s husband, Ken Rogers of Napa, California, Lanark High Class of 1956, joined us at the Alumni Banquet.

Class members unable to attend were Gary Hawbecker, of Normal; Sharon Kloepping, of Palm Coast, Florida; JoAnne Cole Lichty, of Littleton, Colorado; Jim Lowe, of Lena; Mike Lower, of Delray Beach, Florida and Prudence Island, Rhode Island; David Piesen, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; Larry Rostron, of New Lenox; Jim Sloan, of Mims, Florida; and Barbara Vietmeyer Gerdes, of Elgin, Arizona.
