Ernest Hansen

MCNABB — Ernest J. Hansen 91, of McNabb died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan Home in Flanagan.

Ernest was born May 23, 1926, in McNabb to Johannes and Mathilda (Pedersen) Hansen. He was raised by Johannes and his second wife, Mary Hansen, after the death of Mathilda Hansen. He married Gertrude Marshall on Jan. 9, 1949, in Dana.

Ernest was a self-employed local farmer and O’s Gold Seed dealer who was well known for his purebred Chester White breeding stock. He was an active member of the McNabb Emmaus Lutheran Church and the adult fellowship at his church where he served as a board member for many years. He served several years as a member of the McNabb Grain Elevator Board, Marshall Putnam County Fair Board and Magnolia Township Board of Trustees. He belonged to the Chester White Swine Association and served as the swine superintendent for the Marshall- Putnam County Fair and as a 4-H leader. He also served as a member and president of the Magnolia Mutual Insurance Board.

Survivors include three sons, Jo (Cathy) Hansen of McNabb, Jon Hansen of Magnolia and Kenneth (Lynne) Hansen of Shorewood; two daughters, Marge Johns of Flanagan and Mary (Joe) Thais of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Walter Hansen of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gertrude on July 28, 2015; one son, Dale Hansen; two daughters, Marilyn Dunlap and Elsie Hansen; one brother, Adolph Hansen; and two sisters, Mabel Peterson and Maxine Uhde.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville and will be followed by a service at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Todd Johns, David Dunlap, Daniel Dunlap, Dennis Dunlap, Dale Hansen, Jeremie Hansen, Candace Summers, Riley Thais, Samuel Hansen and Natalie Hansen.
