Lawrence L. ‘Larry’ Acker

POLO – Lawrence L. “Larry” Acker, 75, of Polo, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Larry was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Dixon, the son of Russell Keith and Helen L. (Johnston) Acker. On Aug. 12, 1972, in Rock Island, he was united in marriage to Sibyl Anderson. They just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Larry was a chemist for the Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated with multiple degrees from the University of Illinois. He owned 3F Forecasts in Polo for many years, focusing on weather forecasting, market cycles, working with local farmers, and professional speaking. Larry played the organ for almost 60 years, with many of the area churches. He had his hands in many ventures, and remained very active within the community.

Survivors include his wife Sibyl; daughters, Veronica Acker of Springfield, Virginia, Julie Acker of Savanna, and Holly (Ken) Mathiesen of Caledonia; granddaughters, Ellie and Kate Mathiesen; sisters, Barb Kammer of Monticello and Dee (Art) Budelier of Crystal Lake.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John, in infancy; and brother-in-law, Jim Kammer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Polo Family Funeral Home, 110 E. Dixon St. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 201 N. Division Ave., with pastor Terrie Wilder officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow the service at Fairmount Cemetery in Polo.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
