ALGONQUIN – A new spa opened on Randall Road is run by a businesswoman who has previous experience working at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Julie Bevel, owner of Fox River Spa & Salon, used to manage a team of 70 massage therapists at the Bellagio, but she came to the Illinois suburbs to raise her family, she said.
Her new 3,000-square-foot salon at 1543 S. Randall Road, Algonquin, had a “soft opening” in September, and features 10 treatment rooms and two full-spectrum infrared saunas.
The building formerly was a Massage Green property from 2013 until July 2017, and former Massage Green clients can receive a free membership from the new salon.
“They knew I was a local spa entrepreneur, and the landlord asked if I wanted to take the building over, and I said, ‘Absolutely,’ because it’s a gorgeous build-out,” Bevel said. “Now I’m trying to take care of former Massage Green clients in good faith.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 19, and feature raffles, a cook-out and drinks.
Guests can sample makeup applications, mini facials and mini massages.
“I love being in Algonquin and live around the corner, so it’s hyperlocal owned and operated,” Bevel said. “I’m committed to the community, my kids go to school at Westfield Community School, and I’m treasurer of the PTO and committee chair of the Women of Business group, so I really love Algonquin, and I’m happy to be building a business here.”
Bevel has been a massage therapist for 17 years, and bought her first salon at 314 W. Main St. in Carpentersville in 2013.
Bevel hired 15 new employees for the Algonquin location and staffs 22 in Carpentersville.
“Small business is very hard, and it’s all about your staff,” Bevel said. “If you can find a great team of therapists, you can achieve. People say that Illinois is a tough place to be with the budget crisis, but I believe if we keep taking great care of each other, it’s going to be fine.”
The spa will offer eyelash extensions, waxing, facials and massages. Bevel said that her vision is to expand next door and have a full-service salon with yoga and Pilates classes and massage education training.
