YORK, Pa. — Henry Frank Groat, 82, died at his residence on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. He was the husband of Betty L. (Stremmel) Carroll and the late Mary Louise (Goshorn) Groat.
Born March 14, 1935, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of the late Hugh Melvin Groat and the late Dorothy Hazel (Polland) Groat-Smith.
Henry retired as a manufacturer’s representative for Mohawk Connection and was a veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War.
He was a 1952 graduate of Riverside High School in New York and formerly attended Wright Junior College in Chicago. Henry attended Living Word Community Church and served as a national delegate and remained very active with Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 44 years.
In addition to his wife, Henry is survived by two daughters, Kimberly Ann Chronister and her husband, Darryl, of Fredricksburg, Va., and Karen Marie Robbins and her husband, Jon, of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Henry Paul “Hank” Groat and his wife, Michele, of York, Pa., and Gregory Frank Groat of Yorkville; three stepdaughters, Robin Jackson of Helena, Mont., Kim Mohler of York, Pa., and Kathy Clark of Elliston, Mont.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a sister, Carol E. Denman of LaPlata, Md.
Following cremation, an informal Celebration of Life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in the coffee bar of Living Word Community Church, 2530 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, Pa.
