Police: Registered sex offender arrested within 500 feet of school

SYCAMORE – A 27-year-old was arrested Tuesday morning within 500 feet of a school on a second sex offender registration violation charge in the past two months, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Troy J. Davies, who had previously registered his address as in the 22000 block of Larson Road in Sycamore, is charged with being a sex offender in a school zone and failure to register as a sex offender. If he’s convicted of the more serious offense, being a sex offender in a school zone, he could face one to three years in prison.

The release said Davies is no longer living in the 22000 block of Larson Road, and that he was arrested about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, when he was seen leaving a house in the 600 block of Easy Street – which is within 500 feet of North Elementary School, 1680 Brickville Road.

Court records show Davies was charged with violating his sex offender registration Sept. 28, and that he posted $1,000 bail to be released Oct. 3.

The records show a motion was filed Tuesday to increase his bond in that case. He’ll have a bond hearing at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
