D'Arcy Motors Athlete of the Week: Eileen Carney

Eileen Carney, Joliet West, senior, girls tennis

Why Carney was selected:

After being a four-time sectional champion in singles, Carney won her first two matches at state for the third time in four years. She suffered her first defeat of the year to the state champion, Glenbard East's Kolie Allen. Carney, who will play tennis at the University of Toledo, won more games against Allen than anyone else at state, beside the runner-up.

Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Carney.

Herron: What do you like most about tennis?

Carney: I love tennis because I kind of get to control what I do on the court and just like being by myself.

Herron: How did you like competing for Joliet Township, following your brothers?

Carney: It was very intimidating but I was really blessed to do that since there's not many tennis families in the area any more. I was really playing for the Carney name.

Herron: What's your favorite class in school?

Carney: Economics because I like to see how everything works.

Herron: Favorite sports team and athlete?

Carney: The Cubs, who won the World Series on my birthday last year. My favorite athlete is definitely Roger Federer.

Herron: Who would you like to meet?

Carney: Roger Federer.

Herron: Do you have any pets?

Carney: I have two cats.

Herron: Favorite food and best place to get something to eat?

Carney: I really like spaghetti. My mom's kitchen.

Herron: What music do you like and your favorite group?

Carney: I listen to everything and I like country. Coldplay.

Herron: Favorite TV show and actors or actresses?

Carney: My all-time favorite show is 'The Office'. I love Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell.

Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?

Carney: I like to bake.

Herron: Where's the best place you've been and where would you like to visit?

Carney: Hawaii. And I want to visit Greece.
