The SD308 Board of Education has selected Susan Tiedt and Leslie Springer as the director and assistant director of special education, respectively.
Associate Superintendent for Educational Services Dr. Lisa L. Smith praised the appointments saying, "Susan and Leslie both bring a collection of versatile skills to these positions that will enable them to provide much support in the planning and implementation of educational programming for students with diabilities. They are both very passionate about developing and cultivating the social, emotional, and academic needs of all learners."
Tiedt began with the district in 1978 as a teacher of students with learning disabilities at Thompson Junior High School in Oswego, and has been with SD308 in an administrative capacity for more than 13 years. Tiedt most recently served as principal at Fox Chase Elementary School, until Janet DeMont was selected for the role on Oct. 23. She received her bachelor's degree in learning disabilities from Illinois State University and her master's degree in learning disabilities and educational administration from Northern Illinois University. Tiedt will earn a prorated base salary of $99,000 in her new position.
Springer's career began in 2002 as a special education teacher for seventh and eighth graders in Joliet Public School District 89. Springer joined SD308 in 2004 at Homestead Elementary School in Aurora, and has served the district for 13 years. She received her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Milikin University, her master's degree in special education from Lewis University and her master's degree in educational leadership from Olivet Nazarene University. Springer will receive a prorated base salary of $71,000.
