Football: Jason Aubry resigns as Joliet West football coach

JOLIET – Joliet West football coach Jason Aubry, who has led the Tigers' program since the separate programs were reinstated at West and Joliet Central in 2010, resigned Wednesday.

"Jason told the coaches and the players in our last period today that he was resigning," West athletic director Steve Millsaps confirmed. "He's a great person. I coached with him his first year with us and I enjoyed it."

Millsaps did not disclose the reason Aubry gave for resigning.

"I did everything I could to put these kids in the position of success the last 12 years," Aubry said. "It's something that needed to be done. It's time for a change."

Aubry coached 12 years in the Joliet Township programs. His overall record was 34-77 in 12 years, including 30-45 in the last eight years at West. However, the Tigers did qualify for the Class 8A playoffs three of the last four years.

This season, West finished 5-5 and lost to Lincoln-Way East in the opening round of the playoffs.

Aubry's son, Jaxon, is the West quarterback. The junior passed for 2,001 yards this season. He has been the varsity quarterback the last 2 1/2 years.

Jason Aubry said whether gets back into coaching some day is to be determined. He remains a physical education instructor at West.

"Nothing is set in stone as of right now," he said.
