NEW LENOX – Silver Cross Hospital held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new Silver Cross Surgery Center on Oct. 3.
The Silver Cross Surgery Center is a free-standing ambulatory surgery joint venture between Silver Cross Hospital, independent surgeons and United Surgical Partners International – the nation’s largest ambulatory surgery provider.
The 14,000-square-foot center has three operating rooms and 12 recovery rooms. The center is at 1003 Pawlak Parkway in New Lenox, across the boulevard from Silver Cross Hospital.
Ruth Colby, president and CEO of Silver Cross Hospital, said that in the five years since Silver Cross Hospital opened in New Lenox, its surgical suites are close to full occupancy. Expectations are that 2,100 patients will be seen at the center during its first year.
The outpatient surgery center should be open for patients by the end of the month, pending final inspections by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
Benefits to the Silver Cross Surgery Center
The Silver Cross Surgery Center has all of the resources needed to provide patients with a full range of surgical procedures on a same-day basis. Outpatient surgery minimizes patient time away from home and work by eliminating overnight stays at a hospital. In addition, it reduces patients’ surgical expenses and copays on their insurance. It is an efficient and low-cost alternative to hospitalization.
The center has 12 pre- and post-op beds and a spacious family waiting area. The center also uses Steris Integration equipment, allowing surgeons to visualize their surgical field, display MRI scans and send digital images on 27-inch field monitors and 55-inch wall monitors in its operating rooms.
Cataract surgery is a procedure that will be performed often at the center, as well as ear, nose, throat, head and neck surgery; general surgery; gynecology surgery; ophthalmology and oculoplastics; orthopedic surgery; podiatric surgery; and urologic surgery.
