St. Charles man faces felony drug charges after receiving roughly $3,000-worth of ecstasy, meth in mail

ST. CHARLES – A 36-year-old St. Charles man is facing multiple felony drug charges after receiving a package from Spain that contained more than 100 ecstasy pills and roughly seven grams of methamphetamine.

The Kane County Sheriff's Office became involved in the case when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents contacted it, saying they had intercepted a package from Spain at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, Kane County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Pat Gengler said.

The package was to be delivered to an address in unincorporated Kane County and contained 101 ecstasy pills and slightly less than seven grams of methamphetamine – worth about $3,000 in all.

Deputies worked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service to allow the package to be delivered to Ryan Engstrom's home in the 38W700 block of Bonnie Court in St. Charles. Meanwhile, police obtained a search warrant, which they executed on Thursday, Gengler said.

"Once Engstrom took possession of the package we executed the search warrant and took him into custody," Gengler said.

Court records show charges were filed against Engstrom on Thursday. If convicted of the most serious offense, he faces six to 30 years in prison.

Engstrom is next due in court Dec. 13, and his bond has been set at $50,000. He does not have any previous criminal record in Kane County, according to online records, but does have a previous drug paraphernalia charge from a warrant filed in November 2002 in Carol Stream.
