Wauconda police conduct Shop with Cop program

WAUCONDA – The Wauconda Police Department hosted a Shop with a Cop event Dec. 3 for 20 local underprivileged children.

Wauconda Grade School and Robert Crown School, both part of Wauconda Community School District 118, assisted in identifying families in need, according to a news release. In addition, two children, displaced from their homes in Puerto Rico because of Hurricane Maria, participated.

Wauconda police officers and civilian police department employees volunteered their time to help brighten the holiday season for these local children and their families.

Officers and the children met at the Wauconda Police Department and boarded buses provided by the Wauconda Park District and Wauconda Township.

They were transported to Target, 3100 W. Route 60 in Mundelein, where they shopped for gifts for their families and themselves.

Afterward, officers and the children were bused back to Wauconda, where Middleton’s on Main, 110 S. Main St., hosted a breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The participating children also were provided gift bags courtesy of Whisk Bakery & Coffee Shop, 216 S. Main St. in Wauconda.

The event was made possible through generous donations from a number of corporate and private partners.
