Area man faces raft of felony charges in McHenry County

WOODSTOCK – A Rockford man accused of fleeing from police, breaking an officer’s finger and trying to escape custody by crawling through a hospital ceiling was taken to the McHenry County Jail on Friday.

Jordan P. Carmody, 23, formerly of the 2500 block of North Rockton Avenue, was taken Friday from the Lake County Jail to the McHenry County Jail for several ongoing charges stemming from multiple arrests.

Cumulatively, Carmody is charged with obstructing justice, aggravated fleeing police, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, resisting a peace officer, obstructing identification, aggravated assault of a peace officer, criminal damage to property, attempt to escape, aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated battery and driving more than 35 mph over the speed limit, charging documents show.

Those charges are the result of six ongoing cases filed in McHenry County. In regard to the those cases, Carmody also faces a list of citations, including driving the wrong way on a divided highway and disregarding a stop sign.

The most serious criminal charges, aggravated battery to a peace officer and attempt to escape, are typically punishable by three to seven years in prison.

Most recently, on Oct. 11, Carmody was charged with obstructing justice – a felony offense that could land him one to three years in prison, charging documents show.

Each time Carmody has been arrested, he has been able to post bond. Although an affidavit filed Oct. 26, 2016, in McHenry County court stated that he does not have a job, it also states that his parents posted bond on his behalf.

According to bond records in the McHenry County Circuit Clerk’s Office, another person with the last name Carmody has posted his bail on several occasions.

In June 2016, Carmody was charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a peace officer. At that time, he also was charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer in a separate case.

While out on bond in 2017, Carmody again was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a peace officer, according to a criminal complaint.

As a condition of his bond, Carmody was barred from committing another crime, but on Oct. 24, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office learned Carmody had been arrested weeks earlier in Lake County.

He had been wanted on a felony warrant stemming from an Oct. 3 traffic stop, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at the time.

Rather than pulling over, Carmody fled into a subdivision in the area of Route 22 and Cortland Drive, Lake Zurich, the release said.

Officers later found cocaine and a sawed-off shotgun in Carmody’s abandoned vehicle, and on Oct. 18, found him hiding in a bedroom closet, underneath a blanket in his Rockford home, according to the release.

In an October 2016 case, Carmody is accused of giving a false name and birth date to a McHenry County Sheriff’s officer, then attempting to kick the officer in the face and eventually breaking his finger, according to the complaint.

Later that day, police said Carmody caused more than $300 in damage to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, when he pulled down several ceiling tiles in an attempt to escape.

It is unclear from court records why he was at the hospital.

Representatives from the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office were not available to comment Friday before the holiday weekend.

Carmody remained at the McHenry County Jail as of Friday evening. He must post $14,000 bail to be released.

He is due back in court Jan. 3.
