Catherine Mae Buckingham

STERLING – Catherine Mae Buckingham, 89, of Sterling, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling.

Catherine was born Aug. 30, 1928, in Kewanee, to Herbert and Catherine (Huber) Whitmer. She was united in marriage to Thomas Buckingham on July 17, 1957, in Oak Park. She was a hostess for many years at the Brandywine Inn in Dixon. Catherine enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Lady’s Golf League at Emerald Hill Golf Course. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed being around people. Catherine also was a very good cook.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 60 years, Thomas Buckingham of Sterling; a sister, Bonnie Thompson of Sandwich; a brother, Robert Whitmer of Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling. Cremation rites will be accorded after the visitation.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Rock River Hospice & Home, 2706 Ave. E, Sterling, IL 61081.
