LOVELAND, Ohio – Robert W. “Bob” Zetterberg Sr., 88, of Loveland, formerly of Dixon, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017, at Cincinnati Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Bob was born March 10, 1929, in Chicago, to Ralph and Mabel (Rasmussen) Zetterberg . He married Evelyn (Hansen) Zetterberg on June 12, 1954, in Chicago. Bob attended Southland Bible Institute. He was drafted into the service and volunteered for the Marine Corps in 1951, and was honorably discharged in 1953, after serving in Korea. He graduated in 1957 from Northern Illinois University.
Bob and his wife entered the ministry with the Evangelical Congregational Church (ECC) denomination in 1957. He was assigned to his first pastoral ministry in Hooppole. He later served as pastor in Youngstown, Ohio; Findlay, Ohio; and Dixon. From Dixon, he served as the conference superintendent for the ECC for 8 years. He then served as pastor in another EC church in Akron, Ohio. Bob retired from full-time ministry in 1996. He then served part-time as pastor in the Rock Falls EC church for 11 years, living in Sterling. In 2007, Bob and Ev moved to Loveland.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Zetterberg of Loveland; his children, Robert Jr. (Sandra) Zetterberg of Cincinnati, Sandra (Dean) Anderson of Dixon, William (Cynthia) Zetterberg of Loveland, and Kari DiStefano of Loveland. He also is survived by nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Loewecke; one sister-in-law, Audrey Zetterberg; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Zetterberg; two grandchildren, Joshua Anderson and Kristin Zetterberg; his parents, Ralph and Mabel Zetterberg; two brothers, Ralph and Jack Zetterberg; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Loewecke; and one sister-in-law, Jean Zetterberg.
Memorial services were Tuesday at Faith Church in Milford, Ohio. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, and the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church in Dixon, with the Rev. David Carr, pastor of Afolkey Grace EC Church in Dakota, and the Rev. Glenn Hanson, retired EC pastor presently from Massillon, Ohio, co-officiating. Burial, with full military graveside services accorded by the Dixon combined veterans organizations, will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
