Gander Mountain in Algonquin not among stores to reopen

ALGONQUIN – The former Gander Mountain store in Algonquin will not be among the 69 stores slated to reopen this year.

Gander Outdoors – the company’s new name – announced this week the list of retail stores that will reopen in 2018.

Illinois stores set to reopen include those in O’Fallon, Peoria, Rockford and Springfield, but the store that opened in 2014 at 1400 S. Randall Road, Algonquin, didn’t make the cut.

St. Paul, Minnesota-based Gander Mountain had about 160 stores in 27 states when it went into bankruptcy last spring.

Lincolnshire-based Camping World bought the Gander Mountain brand and location rights before changing its name to Gander Outdoors.

Camping World Holdings Inc. is led by Marcus Lemons, star of CNBC’s “The Profit.”

Camping World Holdings Inc. had the winning bid at the bankruptcy auction for certain acquired assets of Gander Mountain, and the sale was approved in a bankruptcy court hearing last May.

Lease terms of the reopening locations were renegotiated and remodeled, and they plan to be open by May, according to a news release.

The retailer sells a variety of gear and equipment for fishing, hunting, camping, marine and water and active and shooter sports.
