DIXON — Ronald Eugene Childers, 84, of Dixon died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Dixon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Born July 26, 1933, in Mendota, the son of Roy and Minnie (Elsesser) Childers, he married Carmen Johnson Nov. 7, 1981, in DeKalb. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2015.
He worked at Butternut Bread in Dixon for 40 years and the Lee County Sheriff’s Department prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon and lifetime member of the Mendota Elk’s Lodge 1212.
He is survived by three sons, Rick (Joanna) Childers of Manlius, and Randy (Dina Garland) Childers and Rusty (Jeni) Childers of Dixon; three stepsons, Brian (Sandra) Jones of Eureka, Steven (Ruth) Jones of Sycamore and Michael (Laura) Jones of Ohiopyle, Pa.; one brother, Roger (Dorothy) Childers of Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Deanna (Del) Klover of Lincoln, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robin and Ross Childers; and one grandson, Zachary Jones.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon with the Rev. David Schweppe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in Lee.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
