Elmhurst police respond to residential burglary attempts

ELMHURST – Elmhurst police are investigating two attempted residential burglaries that reportedly occurred between 6:30 and 7:10 p.m. Jan. 16 in the area of North and West avenues in Elmhurst.

At 6:33 p.m. in the 300 block of River Glen Avenue, a resident reportedly heard a window screen being opened and saw an outside motion light activate, according to a city of Elmhurst news release. The resident then saw a dark pickup or SUV with a loud muffler leaving the area.

Nothing was taken, and there was no suspect description, the release stated.

At 7:10 p.m. in the 500 block of West Third Street, a resident discovered a 5-foot-9 black male of thin build wearing a dark hoodie standing in the foyer of the home holding a handgun, according to the release. The resident fled inside the house and summoned a family member who called police, the release stated.

Responding police checked the house and did not locate the offender. It appears the offender may have entered an open rear patio door, according to the release.

Nothing is known to be missing at this time, the release stated.
