JOLIET – Joliet police investigated a report of criminal sexual assault Wednesday that they said was unfounded after determining the sex between a 22-year-old man and woman was consensual.
Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email that there was a report concerning an alleged criminal sexual assault at Joliet Job Corps Center, 1101 Mills Road, that “turned out to be unfounded after investigation.” He said the sex was consensual.
Joliet police records show the man was arrested shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Gregory deferred to Joliet Deputy Police Chief Al Roechner for further questions.
Roechner said after police interviewed the 22-year-old man and the woman he was with, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office decided not to press charges because the sex was consensual.
State’s Attorney spokesman Charles B. Pelkie said there was no evidence to bring a charge of criminal sexual assault. The man was released without charges, Roechner said.
When asked why the report was made in the first place, Roechner said he didn’t know and that it was a “non-story” because there were no charges or criminal act.
“Once we talked to them, it was determined it was a consensual encounter,” he said.
