Romeoville Metra Station opens for operation

ROMEOVILLE – Multiple area public officials attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the newest edition to the Metra Heritage Corridor line in Romeoville.

The station is the first new stop on the Heritage Corridor line since Metra’s creation in 1984, according to a Village of Romeoville news release, and the first new stop on any Chicagoland Metra line since 2011.

“This stop has been a goal of ours for a long time,” Romeoville Mayor John Noak said in the release. “We’re excited to finally see that goal achieved and believe it will be a tremendous asset for everyone who lives and works in this region.”

Service at the station begins Monday, Feb. 5 when the first train arrives at 5:54 a.m.

“At a time when funding for new stations and other capital needs is in short supply, it is all the more impressive that Romeoville was able to make this station a reality,” Metra CEO and Executive Director Jim Derwinski said in the release.

The station is at 899 E. Romeo Road near the intersection of 135th Street and New Avenue.
