Why Hennessey was selected: The senior beat Plainfield Central's Tom Gustafson 12-11 to capture the Class 3A title and cap a 44-0 season. He become North's initial state champion in wrestling and its first male athlete to win any state title.
The Herald-News sports writer Curt Herron talked with Hennessey.
Herron: What do you like the most about wrestling?
Hennessey: The main thing is the accountability. I'm a go-getter so I get to achieve my own goals and not leave it in the hands of other people.
Herron: What did you like the most about your program?
Hennessey: I liked how everything was pretty smooth. I wrestled at a weight class where I should be. And this year, my head coach (Joby Bodi) worked with me and basically was my training partner.
Herron: What are your thoughts on making history at Plainfield North?
Hennessey: Since I've been here, it's been my goal to put Plainfield North and its wrestling program on the map. Now they can say that since they've won a wrestling state championship, they develop kids just as well as anywhere else.
Herron: Who's someone that you'd like to meet?
Hennessey: Kyle Snyder, who I kind of based my style off of.
Herron: Who's your favorite team and athlete?
Hennessey: The Bulls. I like LeBron James.
Herron: What's your favorite food and restaurant?
Hennessey: Chicken and steak. Buffalo Wild Wings.
Herron: What's your favorite class and any future plans?
Hennessey: English since I enjoy giving presentations. Getting into business or sales.
Herron: What do you like to do in your free time?
Hennessey: I'm in the gym pretty much seven days a week, that's basically my main hobby.
Herron: What's the most interesting place that you've been and where would you like to visit?
Hennessey: Florida. I'd like to take a trip to Ireland since I'm very Irish.
