Matty Stark scored 11 points, Kathleen Levins nine and Caylin Rufus eight for the Dukes in a 52-34 loss to Wheaton Warrenville South in a Class 4A regional final Feb. 15.
The Dukes closed to 36-26 on Stark’s second three with 5:48 left. The Tigers responded with six unanswered points.
“They finished well with their chances. We didn’t. We didn’t handle the pressure great,” said first-year York coach Brandon Collings.
Collings, hired just at the end of summer basketball, graduates eight seniors, including starters Rufus, Dennis, Madison Park and Lauren Viola.
“I’ve become very attached to them. It didn’t end the way we wanted but I’m absolutely proud of them,” Collings said. “I’m happy with the way we’ve played. We’ve lost to some very good teams.”
